There are a few really popular restaurants in Turks and Caicos that get booked up early and require reservations. We are not going to name any names in this article, but we have mentioned some of them before. If you want to make sure you have reservations for that must visit restaurant, you probably need to start calling or sending emails a few weeks before your trip directly to that restaurant. This will help you get in to all the restaurants of your choosing on your vacation.

Now, this article is about what to do if you forgot to make reservations at your dream restaurant. You do have options for still dining or at least visiting the restaurant to check it out and see what all the hype is about. And to be clear, there are many high quality restaurants on the island. The margin of greatness between the top restaurants is very slim. If you miss one, don’t feel bad. Just go to the next one on your list. It is not like going to Paris and missing the Eifel Tower. These restaurants are great, but none of them are so much better than the others that you cannot afford to miss any specific one.

Now that we have that clear, we can get back to what is really important. How do you get into a restaurant that is booked up for the evening without having reservations?

1. Have your concierge call during the day and check if there are any cancellations. This is the easiest way. Stop by the concierge and tell him where you’d like to go. If he says it is completely booked just ask him politely to check for cancellations while you are out at the pool or beach. Then check back in the concierge in a few hours and ask what he has found out. A gratuity or tip may help your situation.

2. Show up early to the restaurant (5:30 or 6 pm) and grab a drink at the bar. You can always check out a restaurant just by visiting the bar area. Even if you just have a drink and an appetizer, you can still get a good sense of the restaurant. You may even get lucky. If you let the host know that you forgot to make reservations, they may have a cancellation or an opening where they can seat you. If not, you can grab a drink and then move on to whatever is the next restaurant on your list.

3. Go on Thursday night. Thursday night is popular for the Thursday Night Fish Fry in Bight Park. This night may have more availability at the most popular restaurants because everyone else is eating, drinking, and having a great time at the Fish Fry.

If none of these work and you still cannot get into the restaurant you want, just go somewhere else. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants on Providenciales. Who knows, you might find something you like better and you will appreciate it more because you just stumbled into it.

Good luck!
