If you have visited other islands in the Caribbean or in the Bahamas you may have noticed cruise ships traveling in and out of the main port on those islands. If you are on Grace Bay Beach or anywhere on Providenciales (Provo), your chances of seeing a cruise ship are pretty slim. This is good for a number of reasons.
At cruise ship ports, you will find the areas become somewhat overwhelmed when cruise ships arrive. Visitors exit the cruise ship to go shopping, eat at local restaurants, and visit the local beaches. These locations quickly become crowded with visitors on cruise ship days. Luckily, you will not find this on the island of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos.
Provo is known as the ‘quiet island’. And Grace Bay Beach is also one of the quietest beach spots that you will find. Cruise ships do not come to Provo at all. Provo is where most of the non-cruise visitors go because that is the location of the airport and also the location of Grace Bay Beach and its many resorts.
Instead, cruise ships that are visiting go to Grand Turk, the capital of Turks and Caicos. It is a completely separate island from Provo. Grand Turk is set up for incoming cruise ships and its visitors. From the massive Grand Turk cruise center to the nearby Governor’s Beach, there is plenty to do for cruise ship visitors.
Part of the beauty and serenity of Grace Bay Beach is that there are no cruise ships visiting. The crowds (or lack of crowds depending on your perspective) are the same for your entire visit to Provo. There is no influx of visitors when cruise ships arrive.
This is one thing that makes Provo and the Grace Bay Beach area so beautiful. You will for the most part enjoy the quiet and calmness of the ocean waves without change or interruption. And in some parts of Provo you will feel like you have the island paradise to yourself.
This setup is great for the cruise visitors as well as they are coming into a beautiful island that is mainly free of resorts and resort traffic. The cruise ships have their own little piece of paradise to enjoy.
It really is the best of both worlds. So if you are on a cruise ship, enjoy Grand Turk! And if you are coming in by airplane, enjoy Provo! The two islands are both beautiful parts of Turks and Caicos.
