Chalk Sound is a beautiful turquoise lagoon on the southwest tip of the island of Provo. This scenic masterpiece is a must see on any visit to Turks and Caicos. The view here is unlike anything else in the world.
Unless you are renting a home on Chalk Sound, you will likely need to rent a car for your visit. The beautiful scenery is worth the day trip. Plus you have nearby beaches to visit at Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay.
The beauty of Chalk Sound is created by the inland lagoon of turquoise ocean water. The shallow lagoon allows you easily see the bottom of the clear water for hundreds of yards in all directions. The best view might be the earliest from the aptly named Picturesque Lane. From this little parking area, you can take as many photos and videos as you like without interruption. (Picturesque Lane is just off of South Dock Road just before you get to Chalk Drive, you can’t miss it.)
The other views of can be had as you head over to Taylor Bay down Chalk Drive. There is not a lot of parking or places to stop along Chalk Drive, but the views are beautiful and one-of-a-kind.
If you’d really like to explore Chalk Sound, you can do so by renting paddle boards or kayaks from Las Brisas restaurant. Las Brisas also offers pontoon boat tours and sunset cruises of chalk sound which are available by reservation. While venturing out onto Chalk Sound you might easily see some lemon sharks, sting rays, barracudas, and other sea life which are common to the area.
If you do not want to venture out on the water, one of the best places to take in the view is Las Brisas restaurant which has a deck that overlooks Chalk Sound. You can stop in for a drink or lunch or dinner and Las Brisas and enjoy the majestic views.
One thing to remember is Chalk Sound is a National Park and must be preserved. There are severe fines for littering or taking anything from Chalk Sound which might disturb its natural beauty.
Chalk Sound National Park Guidelines:
- Powered watercraft use is prohibited in Chalk Sound.
- It is illegal to disturb, harm, feed, or take any animal, plant, or historical artifact in Chalk Sound.
- As with anywhere in the Turks and Caicos, littering is illegal and punishable by a $1000 fine.
